Hi, I'm Josh. I have one last month in Milwaukee before relocating to Phoenix in late September for no particular reason really. Looking for tips, info, would be friends, what have you. Drop me a note and tell me where to live, where to dance, where to find a cheap vodka gimlet at two in the afternoon, or anything in between.

It really depends on what kind of atmosphere you want... there are places with urban, suburban and rural feels... would you rather live close to singles? Families? College kids? How important is going out to you?

I guess to explain what I'm asking... I live off 52nd St/VanBuren. I live in a more liberal district. I don't like kids and wanted to live in an area that doesn't have many: my neighborhood doesn't have any schools. It's also an affordable area and offers quick access to two freeways. It has bus/light rail access in case my car craps out. Most restaurants and things I like to do for entertainment are within a 10-minute drive from my apartment and it's fairly close to work.

Is there anything in particular you're looking for in a neighborhood? I'm really familiar with this city and could offer some insight if you like.

I read some of your journal. It's very interesting. I can relate a bit. To be quite honest, I want to be where the action is. I loathe driving and hope to vitiate the practice altogether once I'm settled, particularly given the light rail I've been hearing about. Point being, I want walking distance to bars/clubs, gym, grocery .. you know, all of life's little pleasures. I perused the bar map on Echo's website, and it looks like this would occur somewhere between Camelback & Indian School, 17th Ave. all the way over to 16th St. I'm sure that's a pretty big area, so any advice you have to offer regarding that would be much appreciated. Looking for a studio, but haven't ruled out a roommate situation. I fly in this Wednesday to check everything out. Josh

Honestly... if that's your primary YIMBY you should look around 7th Avenue and Camelback and stay as close to that intersection as possible. The light rail will run along Camelback, though there is bus service along 7th Avenue. I wouldn't live further west of 7th Avenue though. Anyway, if you live around there, most of those clubs and bars will be within walking distance. You also need to consider work though and distance from it... if you can get a job somewhere along Central Ave, that intersection would work with the light rail... though you'll have to wait a few months for the trains to start running.
