Lesbian Connection magazine! [Nov. 26th, 2007|07:25 pm]

From: ElsiePub@aol.com
Hello from Margy at Lesbian Connection magazine!  I’m trying to get the word out to lesbians everywhere about our FREE magazine.  In case you haven’t heard of LC before, or if you just lost touch with us, here’s some info:
Lesbian Connection is the free worldwide forum of news, ideas, and information for, by, and about lesbians.  We’ve been publishing since 1974, and we mail issues out every other month in plain brown envelopes (the word “lesbian” doesn’t appear anywhere on the outside).
This magazine is a grassroots forum, which means it’s truly written by our readers.  On its pages you’ll find info for lesbians on places to live and where to travel, lesbian B&Bs and guesthouses, websites, cruises, festivals, conferences, lesbian land and retirement communities, products (books, CDs, DVDs, etc.), campgrounds and retreats, lesbian lawyers and realtors, as well as the comic strip “Dykes to Watch Out For,” and much more.  There are also reviews, articles, and letters dealing with whatever issues LC’s readers are talking about, from “The L Word” to health issues, relationships, and politics.
So, if you’re a lesbian and you’d like to start receiving LC, all you need to do is email us (elsiepub@aol.com) your full name and complete (snail mail) mailing address and we’ll be happy to add you to our list.  (By the way, our mailing list is totally confidential; we never sell, loan or share it with anyone else.)  We’d also like to know where you heard about us.  In case you’re wondering LC survives on the donations we receive from our readers.  However, contributions are voluntary and subscriptions really are free to all lesbians.  Our goal is, quite simply, to connect the lesbian community worldwide.  (F.Y.I. our official name and address is Elsie Publishing Institute (EPI), PO Box 811, East Lansing, MI 48826, ph 517-371-5257, fax 517-371-5200.  EPI is a tax-deductible 501(c)3 nonprofit charity.)
We hope to hear from you soon, and feel free to forward this email on to your lesbian friends and list-serves!
For Lesbian Connection,
P.S. If you email us by the end of the month we should be able to get you into our next mailing.

Rainbows this weekend [Oct. 2nd, 2007|11:12 am]

Who all is going to Rainbow Festival this weekend?

Also, an ENDA update from Lamda:
Lambda Legal’s Analysis of Stripped Down Version of ENDA: Gender Identity Protections Gone and Inadequate Protections for Lesbians and Gay Men

‘You can’t be fired for being a lesbian or a gay man, but you can be fired if your boss thinks you fit their stereotype of one.’

(New York, October 1, 2007) — Lambda Legal's preliminary assessment of the revised version of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act shows the bill to be riddled with loopholes in addition to failing altogether to protect transgender people against discrimination.

"Leaving out protections for transgender people is unacceptable, and passing a bill riddled with loopholes will make it harder to achieve equality on the job," said Kevin Cathcart, Executive Director at Lambda Legal. "You can't be fired for being a lesbian or a gay man, but you can be fired if your boss thinks you fit their stereotype of one."

Are you an alcoholic/addict? [Sep. 20th, 2007|08:29 am]
apologies...posted this here mistakenly. If its helpful, great. If not...well..I am not going to delete it now...

I posted this as a comment to another post, but since I often see and hear confusion here, in other journals, and EVERYwhere, I thought it was worth repeating to all. I talk primarily about alcohol but this applies to all mind/mood altering substances with some variation depending on the substance (i.e., with opiates the craving begins before use and is satisfied by using; with stimulants, the craving begins AFTER putting the substance in your body)

Alcoholism (addiction) has absolutely nothing to do with how much or how often one drinks/uses.
Just thought you should know that.Collapse )

Psychic TV and a Protest? Let's PARTY!!! [Aug. 24th, 2007|05:38 pm]

[Current Location |Scottsdale, AZ]
[Current Mood |determined]

Psychic TV is coming to Scottsdale, Arizona... and surprise, surprise, in the most ironic move yet, they're playing at Anderson's. (yes the very same Anderson's 5th Estate)

Everybody come, it's a Party and a Protest!

MON AUG 27 -

So show up to support Psychic TV, Genesis P.Orridge, and the local transgender community, but DO NOT BUY DRINKS because we do not want to support Anderson's behavior! (I know, Sisters not buying drinks, it's a night of irony!)

I wrote to Psychic TV to find out if they realized that Tom Anderson had turned Michele and 4 other lovely ladies away at the door, and of course they were unaware. They hadn't heard about the discrimination case against him. WELL THEY HAVE NOW!!!

Psychic TV says it is too late for them to cancel the show, so we should bring as many GLBT people in as possible to flood the place en masse and Psychic TV will even post a Psychic TV band member at the door to make sure everyone is treated respectfully and allowed in. YOU GO PSYCHIC TV!

So show up, pay the cover for the show, but DO NOT BUY DRINKS. And while you're at it, bring a blank face mask.

For more info on the masks, Psychic TV and the issues surrounding Anderson's... visit my blog at http://sistermischif.blogspot.com

Novice Sister Mischif S. Marymaker
Keeper of the Chalice of the Cherrytakers
Missionary Order of the Grand Canyon Sisters

Please pass it on! And if you're in town and available, please stop by and help me promulgate joy and spread the word that we should be free to be ourselves in all our beautiful colors!

Fwd: M-Spectrum is online (Phoenix, AZ) [Jun. 19th, 2007|01:34 am]

Pass it on:

You asked for it, now it's here. The M-Spectrum yahoogroup is up and running!  To join go to the yahoogroup at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mspectrum and click on "Join this group"

M-Spectrum is a discussion/social group for people who were declared intersexed or female at birth, and no longer feel that is an accurate description. (i.e. FtM, MtM, Transmale, tranny fag, affirmed male, men with a trans past, pre-op/post-op/non-op transgendered, transsexuals, trannyfags, bois, genderqueers, and those questioning.)

The group is based in Phoenix, Arizona. Because of the "urban sprawl" here, we try to move the meeting place around to different parts of the valley, to give everyone shared access. We mostly meet at various coffee houses, sometimes at our own houses. Locations and meeting times are not posted publicly; they're accessible to members only. Directions to attend meetings at private homes are available only by email request (meaning, home addresses and phone numbers are not posted to the group).

We're pretty laid back.. just a bunch of guys who get together to hang out, share experiences, information, and camaraderie. we're not a formally structured support group, but we are positive, welcoming, and supportive. Meetings are usually open topic, so everyone is free to bring to the table what ever is on their minds.

Requests to join the group are moderated to protect our members, and to ensure that this is the right group for you. Please be prepared to share a little about yourself, and your reason for wanting to join. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email the moderators at mspectrum-owner@yahoogroups.com

THIS GROUP IS NOT FOR SEEKING SEXUAL ENCOUNTERS WITH TRANS PEOPLE. If you're in AZ and looking to meet transmen go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/anybodiedmenaz/
